Chapter 4 - The Mysterious Luna

Alpha Colton POV

I was sitting in my office looking over some documents when there was a knock at the door.

“Come in,” I said.

The door opened and in walked Heather. She didn’t say anything, as she seductively walked behind my desk and put her hands over my shoulders. She started to gently massage them and it instantly irritated me.

“You seem stressed Colton, maybe I could help you relax a little.” She said, in a seductive tone, as her hands trailed down my chest towards my abdomen.

Heather, is Alpha Philip’s daughter, of the Evergreen Pack. She is going to be my chosen mate. I don’t love her and to be honest, she irritates the hell out of me, but she’s a strong and well-respected she-wolf and my pack needs a Luna.

She’s 22, with shoulder-length blonde hair and blue eyes, she’s 5’6 with a slim, yet fit body. She’s very attractive, but I don’t feel a connection with her, she’s boring and will practically do whatever I ask of her. I always thought when I met my mate, she would challenge me and I just don’t get that with Heather.

I’m 24 years old, it’s been five years since I turned of age and I have yet to find my fated mate, so for my pack's best interest, I’ve chosen Heather. She’s been staying with me, on my territory for a month now, and in a month we will have the Luna ceremony, announcing her as my official Luna.

“Heather, I’m busy.” I said, pointedly.

“Well Colton, maybe we can have dinner together tonight?” She asked, sounding hopeful.

“Ya sure, maybe.” I replied, with a bored tone, while continuing to examine my documents.

She took her hands off my shoulders and walked towards the door, letting out a frustrated huff. She paused before leaving and looked over her shoulder at me.

“Colton, I know I’m not your fated mate, but I could still make you happy if you just let me.” She said, sounding disappointed, before opening the door and leaving, closing it behind her.

I sat there irritated, I mean, I should be nicer to her, she’s going to be a big part of my life, but I just can’t seem to do it. I hate spending alone time with her. We have had sex before, but it was the most boring Missionary sex I’ve ever had.

Not even a minute later, I was distracted by my thoughts, when I got a mind-link from my Beta, Josh. Pack members can telepathically communicate with one another when they are in fairly close proximity to each other.

‘Alpha, we caught a trespasser. We’re at the infirmary with her. I need you to come here, ASAP.’ He said, sounding a bit stressed. It was out of character, Josh is a calm guy, even when things get a little dice. I knew something serious must of happen.

‘I’m on my way.’ I linked him back, and instead of asking for details, I figured I would just go and see for myself.

I headed out to the pack house and made my way to the infirmary. Once I got there, I walked in and was greeted by the receptionist.

“Alpha, how can I help you?” She asked, looking concerned at why I would be in the infirmary.

“Beta Josh, told me that they brought a trespasser in not too longer ago.” I said to her.

“Yes Alpha, second door on the right, you can go right in.” She informed me.

“Thank you.” I replied and offered her a small smile before I walked down the hall.

I opened the door and walked in, to find my Beta, Josh, and Gamma Kyle, standing by a hospital bed. I couldn’t see who was lying down on the bed, all I could see were feet at the end of the bed. My Beta and Gamma were blocking my view.

“Alpha, thanks for coming. I’m not sure what to make of this one.” Josh said and sounded concerned. He paused for a moment, before continuing. “She has no scent, not even human.” He finished. While shaking his head in disbelief.

“How did you find her?” I asked while I approached the bed.

When I was close enough and my men were no longer blocking my view, I could see her completely. She was beautiful, her long raven hair looked smooth and silky and her skin was creamy and clear. Something drew me to her, I couldn’t figure out what it was. It wasn’t the mate bond, that would have been clear, no, it was something else that I didn’t understand.

“What happened,” I asked, with my eyebrows furrowed. I couldn’t take my eyes off her unconscious body. She looked so innocent and peaceful as she slept. I could see a large bandage covering her shoulder underneath the hospital gown.

“She was being chased by four wolves onto our territory, we intercepted them and ended up fighting the wolves. We tried to keep at least one of them alive to interrogate, but it wasn’t possible. We ended up killing them all. Once we turned around, she was gone, luckily we found her a little further onto our territory. She fought us hard, trying to get away. It took three of us, to finally subdue her and as you can see, she’s unconscious because of the loss of blood. I had to pin her down by the shoulder and my teeth broke skin.” Josh reported with a regretful look on his face. I know he doesn’t like hurting anyone unless it’s absolutely necessary.

“I see.” I replied, while still looking at the woman laying unconscious in front of me.

“Alpha” Josh said hesitantly and paused before continuing.” “I can’t pick up a scent on her, not even human like it’s being masked or something.” He finished with a low concerned voice.

I inhaled deeply, he was right, I couldn’t scent anything. All creatures, including humans, have distinct scents, since werewolves have stronger senses of smell, we can immediately tell what species a person is, just by their scent.

Why was this woman on my territory? I have a lot of enemies that would love to see me fall. Was she sent here by one of them to kill me?

I frowned at the thought, she may be beautiful, but that might be intentional so that I lower my guard and let her in. That’s not going to happen.

“What did the doctor say?” I asked and glanced over at Josh and Kyle.

“He cleaned her wounds and bandaged her up, he figured it won’t be long before she woke up,” Josh replied while looking at the woman with sad eyes.

“I don’t know Alpha, she seemed like she was legitimately running from those werewolves,” Kyle added while looking at the girl.

“It’s not a risk I’m willing to take.” I said firmly.

“Yes, Alpha.” Kyle replied, with pity in his eyes for the woman.

“Bring her to the dungeon, when she wakes up, we can interrogate her.” I ordered.

Just as I finished, I saw her eyes start to flutter open. She opened them slightly and her eyes were a beautiful emerald color, she looked around and they finally locked with mine. I couldn’t even speak, her eyes were mesmerizing, I could get lost in them for days, they were so different.

“W-who are yo-you?” She stuttered out, barely above a whisper sounding fearful.

“Let’s start with who you are?” I said sternly and I saw fear within those gorgeous eyes. A tear ran down her cheek, as her eyes shut and she lost consciousness again.

“Bring her to the dungeon, restrain her with silver, in case she has supernatural abilities. Make sure the guard knows, to notify me as soon as she wakes up.” I commanded.

Josh and Kyle acknowledged my command in unison and I left the room, closing the door behind me.

My mind was going crazy with thoughts. Is this some sort of threat? Was she here to kill me? Why would her scent be masked if she wasn’t?

I can’t let her beauty distract me, there’s more to her than meets the eye.

Even my wolf, Hector, was acting weird in my head, while we were around her. He was restless and he felt the connection as I did. Why do we feel a pull toward her, nothing makes sense right now. We need to ask her some questions.

Maybe it’s some sort of magic, masking her scent and making me feel a connection with her, so I lower my guard and then she can kill me. I know witches have all kinds of tricks like that.

I returned to my office and poured myself a large glass of scotch. I sat down on my couch and was lost in my own thoughts.

I don’t know how long I was sitting there before there was a knock at the door.

“Come in” I announced.

The door opened and Josh walked in. He walked over to the table beside my desk, without saying a word, and poured himself a scotch, before taking a seat in the armchair across from me.

Both Josh and Kyle are my best friends, I’ve known them since we were little and I trust them with my life. They are the only people I trust. I’ve been burned so many times in the past, I don’t trust because of it.

“Colton, something seems weird about her. I can’t put my finger on it, but I don’t feel like she’s a threat. She looked petrified when we found her, it didn’t seem like an act.” Josh said and he looked just as confused as I was, about this girl's identity.

“Well, I can’t risk it.” I replied with a frown.

“She fought us hard, she certainly had the will to survive.” Josh said with a dry chuckle.

“Well, hopefully, she talks when she’s awake and we can get some answers.” I said and he nodded.

“Ya, I hope so too.” Josh said while taking a sip from his drink.

Josh is 23 and mateless as well. He wants to find his, but just hasn’t yet. It seems to be getting harder and harder these days to find your fate mate. A lot of werewolves have been settling for a chosen one.

My Gamma Kyle was lucky to find his when he was twenty. Her name's Beth and they are a great match together.

If only I could have found mine, I wouldn’t have to settle for Heather, I thought to myself, as I took a big gulp of scotch.
