Chapter Seven

Elle POV 

I watch Damon stomp out of the closet, leaving me in the dark, confused and a little turned on, then confused even more because he shouldn't turn me on. I hate him. He does nothing but tries to control my life. I know all the horrible things he has done to me over the years, but I wanted him to kiss me the entire time he had me pinned to the wall. I am glad he didn't kiss me. I have no intention of giving that right to anyone other than my mate, but Goddess, did I want him to kiss me into oblivion. 



After a few minutes of trying to get Damon's lips out of my mind, I realize it's never going to happen in this closet, still consumed by his scent. Running out the door, I run into a female just a little shorter than me, causing her to fall back on her ass. 



"Watch where you're going, Nerd," comes the high-pitched squeal of my second least favorite person at this school Melanie Simmons, the twin sister of Matt and Damon's on-and-off girlfriend. Melanie thinks she is such hot shit because she is the only female born of a higher-ranked male. She classifies herself as the resident "it" girl and the biggest bitch in the pack. Although I don't think she has any room to brag about it, I have seen her on the training field. For a Gamma's daughter, you would assume she would be a highly-skilled fighter, but she's not. The Gamma complains about it constantly how lazy she is and how little effort she puts into her training. 



"Sorry, Melanie, I didn't see you there," I said; I wanted to put space between us before she made my day worse than it's already been. 



"As you should be," Melanie sneers at me as she dusts the dirt off her pants and her eyes scan me up and down with disdain. "You know you can change your clothes and your hair and put makeup on your face, but you'll always be the same little loser orphan no one wants to be friends with," Melanie says, bringing her smirking face closer to mine. 



"Got it; I am going to go now. I have too many things to do," I say, stepping around her to walk down the hall toward the engineering hallway. 



"Where you off to, Orphan? Off to manage another nerd convention?" Melanie says while cackling like she just made the funniest joke known to man. 



"Wow, that was truly original, Melanie. Did you think of that all by yourself?" I ask, my voice dripping with sarcasm. 



"Of course, duh!" she replies, and holy Goddess, is this girl dumb? I don't understand how she is the daughter of the Gamma and his female because she is fucking dumb. Even her twin, Matt, isn't this stupid. 



"Look, Melanie, I have things I need to do. Is there a point to you stalking me?" I ask her growing tired of whatever this is. 



"I heard about your run-in with Damon earlier. The whole school is talking about it. One word of advice stay away from men that aren't yours," she sneers, attempting to intimidate me by getting in my face, but she isn't as tall as I am, so she still has to look up at me. 



"Look, I have no interest in Damon, don't worry. He is yours to fuck until he isn't anymore." I shrug because it's true. 



"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" she asks.



"I don't see his mark on your neck Melanie, meaning he isn't yours, and you're not his. You should be more focused on finding your mate than rank climbing. Everyone can see it, and it's not cute," I say matter-of-factly, not giving a damn if it hurts her feelings. 



"You bitch! Damon would pick me over his mate any day! He loves me!" she screeches, her anger rising, verging into a full-blown meltdown. 



"If you believed that you wouldn't be here harassing me, telling me to stay away from him. Goodbye, Melanie," I say, turning away from her and leaving her open-mouthed in the middle of the hallway, thinking about what I said.

The rest of the school day was a blur. I barely paid attention to any of the classes and barely talked to Theo. All I could think about was being trapped in the janitor's closet with Damon. The way his skin felt on mine. All I could think about was kissing my worst enemy. The man I have spent the last five years avoiding. But did I avoid him because he was mean and terrified me? Or because I have always been attracted to him? These questions have been plaguing me the whole way home that I barely notice pulling into the driveway of the packhouse. 



Thankfully, Damon is at the training field with the rest of the students at Timberlake High, so I can avoid him until dinner if he even shows up, and he usually doesn't. He prefers to eat out with friends, Melanie, or in his room. Damon only shows his face at the dinner table to entertain party guests a few times a year. So I probably won't have to face him then either, and I might be able to save this first day of my Junior year. 

I know I should probably do some homework or take care of any other business I need to take care of, but this day has just exhausted me. Without thinking twice, I stripped off my clothes, climbed into the bed, and buried myself under the covers. Within five minutes, I was drifting off peacefully to sleep.

The knocking at my door wakes me from my blissful slumber; looking at the clock on my bedside table, I see that it's almost 7p.m which means it's probably another Omega coming to tell me dinner is ready. The knocking becomes more insistent as I put my clothes back on. None of the Omegas working in the house wouldn't act like this. 



Rushing the door, I fling it open to find Damon leaning against the doorway with an easy smile on his lips. Seeing him so carefree for once takes the air from my lungs as my nose fills with his comforting scent. 



"What do you want, Damon?" I ask him, irritated that he woke me from my sleep in such a rude manner. 



"I am here to tell you dinner is ready," he says as his eyes study my face like he is looking for hidden answers to questions only he knows. It's a little unsettling having his eyes on me like this. 



"You could've sent me a mindlink," I reply while rolling my eyes. 



"We all tried, but you blocked everyone out," he says, "What were you doing anyway?" 



"Nothing, Damon," I say, trying to walk past him over this conversation and his nosiness, but he blocks me between the door I had shut and his body. My heart is racing, seeing how little space there is between us.



"Why won't you tell me?" he insists, "Did you have that mutt in your room?" his eyes flash black, showing that Slade has joined this unwelcome party. 



"Do I smell like another wolf was in my room?" before I could blink, Damon shoved his face into my neck, taking a long whiff while I stood frozen, completely taken aback by his actions. Before I know it, he is pressing my entire body into the door, completely covering me with his. I cannot deny the tingles spreading throughout my body and the wetness starting to pull in my underwear. 



"Be careful, Biscuit; you don't want my parents to smell your arousal at dinner," Damon whispers into my neck, snapping me out of the trance I seem to enter whenever he is around. Pushing him away from me, I storm past him trying to put some much-needed distance between us. 



"Get over yourself, Damon," I snarl at him as I head down the hallway as fast as possible. All I can hear in response is his chuckle. I don't remember if I have heard Damon chuckle, but it's like music to my ears. 

I eventually hear his footsteps following behind me as I find my way through the house to the kitchen for dinner with the rest of the family.
